Making Technology Simple: ChatGPT as Your Personal Assistant

A journey with artificial intelligence, particularly ChatGPT, highlighting its role as a valuable daily companion. It aids in understanding technology, organizing tasks, and fostering creativity while cautioning users about its limitations and potential biases. Ultimately, AI enhances independence and engagement in learning, encouraging exploration for all.

I’ve always had a curious mind, especially when it comes to technology. Over time, that curiosity led me to explore artificial intelligence. ChatGPT, in particular, has gradually become a part of my everyday routine. What started as a fun experiment has now grown into a practical, daily companion.

I often turn to ChatGPT for clear and simple explanations. Whether I’m trying to understand how iCloud works, or I’m looking for ways to free up space on my iPad, ChatGPT provides assistance.

But my use of AI goes far beyond technical troubleshooting. ChatGPT helps me write texts, plan my day, and even come up with creative topics for conversations with my grandchildren. In many ways, it feels like having a personal assistant. This assistant can organize my thoughts. It can suggest new ideas and help me stay on track.

Here are just a few ways I’ve found it useful:

  • Understanding the differences between cloud services like Google Drive, iCloud, and OneDrive
  • Simplifying routines, like booking appointments.
  • Organizing my notes and digital files with the help of tags
  • Drafting transcripts and scripts for videos I’m working on
  • Getting inspiration for conversations with my grandchildren.
  • Keeping track of tasks and activities – acting like an extra layer of memory.

AI has been helpful in my daily life. For example, when planning a family get together, I copied information from our family WhatsApp chat into ChatGPT. This generated a table with suggested scheduled activities. We discovered a few activities overlapping and succeeded to re-schedule to avoid double bookings.

Some words of warning

AI can be incredibly helpful, but it doesn’t know things the way people do. Sometimes it gives wrong or outdated answers—even when the information you get looks like it is correct. It can also show bias from the data it was trained on. Worst case scenario AI can be a very talented liar. The user needs to stay curious, double-check facts, and use own judgment.

AI is fast, tireless, and good at handling large amounts of information. But it can’t understand context, emotions or value. AI has no common sense, it is possible that it misses the obvious or interpret information too literally. AI is not an artist or writer. It can remix information, but it is not truly artistic. It does not get inspired by emotions or feelings. Finally AI can’t distinct right from wrong, it is not capable of ethical thinking.

As an example of misinformation AI is providing. I asked AI about the history of my childhoods close neighborhood, the answer was not correct. AI had connected the scarce information it had in a manner that made the answer completely misleading.

Final thoughts:
For me, ChatGPT has become more than just a tool. It’s a partner that helps me stay curious. It keeps me independent. It keeps me engaged. It’s helped me create space for the things I enjoy and made learning feel natural again.

AI is a powerful tool. Despite its limitations, but the user is always the one who needs to think, feel, and decide.

No matter your age or experience with technology, I truly believe there’s something here for everyone willing to explore.
